Gokilaht 5EC

For Professional Pest Control Operators

Gokilaht 5EC is an emulsifiable concentrate formulation, which was developed for professional pest control operators to use. Its formula contains a synthetic pyrethroid, Gokilaht 5EC, an optical isomer of GokilahtⓇ (cyphenothrin). It is remarkably lethal, has a quick knockdown effect and is excellent for flushing out pests in relatively lower concentrations.

Active Ingredient:

d,d,T-cyphenothrin 5.9%

Key Features

  • Quick knockdown effect

  • High killing effect

  • Rapid flushing-effect

  • Effective residual effect

  • Low toxicity for mammals

Application

Gokilaht 5EC can be applied using a variety of sprayers such as ULV, thermal fogger, power and knapsack sprayers, etc. The product performs more efficiently than Permethrin 5EC in glass chamber, CSMA direct spray, flushing-out test and residual contact methods.

WHO Prequalification Status

Gokilaht-S 5EC had been listed as an approved product by WHOPES as well as WHO Prequalification since 2004.  As of 18 June 2024, it has been voluntarily withdrawn from WHO Prequalification by Sumitomo Chemical.  As part of its commitment to the SDG targets, Sumitomo Chemical will continue to invest new product development and offer Gokilaht-S 5EC and other solutions to reduce vector-borne diseases with the same quality as before.

Based on the product manual and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) provided, here is the English translation of the detailed explanation for the four characteristics of Gokilaht-S 5EC:

Discover how Gokilaht-S 5EC targets the nervous system of mosquitoes and flies. Its active ingredient, d,d,T-cyphenothrin, causes rapid dysregulation of axonal ion channels, leading to instant paralysis and knockdown.

1. Why it achieves "Quick Knockdown"

  • Active Ingredient Mechanism: The product contains d,d,T-cyphenothrin, a synthetic pyrethroid that acts as a contact and stomach poison.

  • Neurological Impact: It targets the nervous system of insects, causing rapid paralysis upon contact.

  • Proven Performance: Laboratory tests using the glass chamber method show that the product achieves significantly faster knockdown times (‭‬) for houseflies and mosquitoes compared to standard Permethrin formulations.

Gokilaht-S 5EC offers a dual-action approach against cockroaches. It forces pests out of hiding through nervous excitation while blocking spiracles to induce suffocation, ensuring maximum efficacy in professional pest control

2. Why it has a "Flushing-out Effect"

  • Stimulus Response: The formulation is specially arranged to trigger a "flushing" reaction, which irritates insects hiding in dark cracks and crevices.

  • Increased Exposure: This effect forces pests like cockroaches to leave their hiding spots and move into the open.

  • Enhanced Killing: By driving them out, the insects are more likely to come into contact with a lethal dose of the insecticide spray.

  • Test Results: Efficacy data confirms a high flushing-out activity (‭‬) against both German and American cockroaches.

Ensure persistent protection with Gokilaht-S 5EC. Proven efficacy data shows approximately 82% residual effectiveness against cockroaches even 8 weeks after initial application on surfaces like plywood.

3. What is the function of "Residual Effect"

  • Long-term Control: Residual effect refers to the ability of the chemical to remain active on treated surfaces (such as wood or walls) after the initial application.

  • Preventive Protection: It functions as a persistent shield, killing pests that crawl over the treated area long after the spraying has finished.

  • Durability: Testing on plywood panels demonstrates that the product maintains high mortality rates against cockroaches even 8 weeks after the initial treatment.

Gokilaht-S 5EC is prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO) for public health use. Classified as WHO Class III (Slightly Hazardous), it offers low mammalian toxicity with an oral LD50 of 3910mg/kg.

4. Why it has "International Certification" and "Low Toxicity"

  • WHO Prequalification: Gokilaht-S 5EC is prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO), meaning it meets international standards for efficacy, quality, and safety in public health use.

  • Safety Standards:
WHO Class III: It is classified as "slightly hazardous" (WHO Class III), indicated by a blue label in Malaysia.
Low Mammalian Toxicity: With an acute oral ‭‬ (rat) of ‭‬‭‬, it poses a relatively low risk to humans and pets when used correctly.
Risk Assessment: Formal assessments conclude that when applied according to label instructions, the health risk to operators and residents (including toddlers) is negligible.
